Consisting of three buildings ranging between three and six levels, Olive York Way is the successful transformation of a former industrial site which has added 145 apartments, four townhouses and five retail outlets to the popular suburb of Brunswick West. The development includes a basement car park for residents, a street-level car park for retail customers and a designated area for bike parking. The combination of materials (brick, timber and glass) presents a contemporary façade, and also provided ease in constructability.
The seamless connection with the built forms of the surrounding area is seen along Duggan Street, which was designed to mimic neighbouring three-storey buildings.
A centrally located common courtyard offers abundant space for residents to share. This was one of the first proposals to provide this level of residential amenity, and has proven to be a popular element of the development.
